15th Boston Turkish Arts and Culture Festival
DOCUMENTARY AND SHORT FILM COMPETITION
December 3 - 8, 2010

 

RULES OF THE COMPETITION:

 

1.
Boston Turkish Festival Documentary and Short Film Competition's applications will be accepted until September 10, 2010.  Applications received after September 10, 2010 will not be accepted. The Festival reserves the right to extend the deadline for submissions. 

2.
The program consists of two parts: (a) Competition Section; (b) Non-Competitive Section. Applicants will mark their selection on the Entry Form. The Selection Committee reserves the right to place a film in the Non-Competitive section which was originally submitted for Competition Section. 

3.
There is no thematic limitations for submitted films.

4.
Maximum running time for short films is 45 minutes. Maximum running time for documentaries is 180 minutes.

5.
Films which participated in other competitions can participate in the Festival.

6. Films have to be filmed at least within the last two years from the date of the Festival.

7. Each applicant can submit only one film per category.

8. All submissions made for Competition or Non-Competitive Sections, should be mailed to the Festival mailing address specified below, to be received by the Festival Selection Committee by September 10, 2010. The application package should include the following:

  • Completed and signed Competition Entry/Application Form -- click to download.

  • Four (4) DVD or VHS (NTSC preferred) copies of the film for viewing in the selection process. All copies must be English subtitled. Please note, if DVD(s) has viewing issues such as freezing, application will be eliminated.

  • A few still pictures of the film and a picture of the director (Preferably on a CD, 300DPI in jpg format) to be used on the Festival web site and printed materials, if the film is selected as a finalist.

  • A brief synopsis of the film.

  • Brief biography of the director (to be used on the Festival web site, if selected).

  • Press material, if available (e.g. credits, electronic press kit, poster, etc.).

  • Application package should be mailed to the following address:

  • All documents should be submitted in English (preferably) or in Turkish.


 

 

9. The Selection Committee will review the applications and those who are found eligible to participate either in the Competition or Non-Competitive Sections will be announced as "finalists" of the Competition. The announcement will be made on the festival web site at http://www.BostonTurkishFestival.org

10. The viewing DVDs submitted in the application packages will not be returned to the applicants. The Festival reserves the right to file selected viewing DVDs for internal purposes in its archives. 

11. Films selected for the Competition by the Festival can not be withdrawn by the applicant from the Festival once the Festival Program is publicized on the Festival web site.

12. The Festival accepts entries which, if selected as a finalist, can be screened as 16 or 35 mm film prints, or as DVDs or mini-DVs. Only those films which are in English or subtitled in English will be accepted. Shipping costs of the films to the Festival's Boston mailing address shall be paid by the sender, while the return costs (if applicable) will be paid by the Festival. Screening prints or tapes need to arrive in Boston at least two weeks before the opening date of the Competition.

13. The Jury shall decide on awarding of the following prizes (subject to change):

Best Documentary -
A check for $1,000.00 (Onethousand U.S. Dollars)
Best Short Film -
A check for $1,000.00 (Onethousand U.S. Dollars)
Audience Award for Best Documentary -
A check for $250.00 (Twohundredandfifty U.S. Dollars)
Audience Award for Best Short Film -
A check for $250.00 (Twohundredandfifty U.S. Dollars)

The jury may decide to split the Best Documentary or Best Short Film prizes among multiple competitors.

Throughout the screenings of the Competition, audience will be distributed ballots to vote for the Audience Awards. After the completion of the screenings the ballots will be counted and winners of the Audience Awards will be announced alongside the winners of the Best Documentary and Best Short Film Awards of the jury. The Festival reserves the right to give additional awards or special mentions to the participating documentaries and short films.  

14. Winners of the Best Documentary and Best Short Film categories and Audience Awards may be re-screened at the 10th Boston Turkish Film Festival to take place in March-April 2011, not subject to any additional screening fee.

15. Members of the Festival Jury will be appointed by the Festival Director. The Jury for the Documentary and Short Films consist of three to five members.

16. By entering their film, applicants signify their willingness to abide by these regulations. Any issues not clarified by these regulations shall be adjudicated by the Festival administration.
